BIOGRAPHY--Eve Ann (Carpenter)
Morris
Eve moved with her husband to Warren County, Illinois in 1845,
and
settled Northwest of Little York. After living there and at another
homestead nearby they moved into Little York, Illinois in the
Spring
of 1885. She had been in ill health for some time and had visited
family in Kansas shortly before her death. Funeral services were
conducted by the Reverend Beal of Sunbeam. According to an
application for accrued pension benefits after her husband died,
Eve
stated that they were married 8 June 1843 at Paris, Kentucky.
Other
information is that they were married 9 January 1843 at Lexington,
KY.

The marriage date of
9 Jan., 1843 that
Chet referred to was from The History of Henderson County, 1882
which has already been shown to contain errors. The June 8, 1843
date is probably more accurate since it is on her husband's pension
papers (a government record). Either way, Eve was only 15 years
old when she was married. An obituary, below, says she was married
on Jan. 9, 1843. The question as to the exact date was settled
when Keith Morris found the original Marriage Register in Paris,
Bourbon County, KY in 1998. This Register clearly shows the wedding
date was Jan. 8, 1843, and was performed by Amos Cleaver.

Obituary--The Daily Review, Monmouth, IL,
for Tuesday, October 2, 1888:
Mrs. Wm. Morris died at her home in Little York Sabbath afternoon
at four o'clock. Dropsy and failure of the heart caused her death.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon. The remains were taken
to Belmont church in Henderson county. A large number of friends
were in attendance and followed the remains to the cemetery.
[Note: Her head marker shows date of death to be Sept. 29, which
was a Saturday. This does not agree with the obituary notice above
which said that she died on Sabbath.]

OBITUARY
MORRIS--At her home in this place on Sunday, September 30, near
4 o'clock p. m., occurred the death of Mrs. E. A. Morris, of heart
disease, aged 61 years, 2 mo., 4 days.
EVE ANN CARPENTER was born in Lexington, Ky., July 26, 1827, and
was married to William Morris of that place, Jan. 9, 1843. They
moved to Warren county, Ill., in 1845 and settled northwest of
Little York on the farm now owned by Jerry Ranney, where they
lived eight years and then moved to the old homestead which is
now occupied by their son William. Here they resided until they
moved to Little York in the spring of 1885, and the husband died
in the following July. To them were born seven sons and two daughters,
seven of whom survive: John W. of Peru, Ks., Mrs. Mary Armstrong
and Mrs. Mattie Millis of Randolph, Iowa, Ralph of Wallace, Ks.,
M. P. of Omaha, Neb., Wm. and D. R. of this place. Both were members
of the Belmont M. E. church.
Mrs. Morris had been in failing health for some time and went
on a visit west this summer in hopes of being benefitted but while
in Kansas she was taken down and only recovered sufficiently to
be brought home the latter part of August. Since that time her
decline has been gradual, and disease baffled all the skill that
loving hands could perform. A short service was held at the house
Monday and at 2 o'clock a large concourse of sympathizing friends
followed the remains to the Belmont cemetery to perform the last
sad rites. An appropriate discourse was pronounced by Rev. Beal
of Sunbeam. Those of the children present during their mother's
last hours were Wm. and D. R. Morris and Mrs. Millis, and the
family will have the sympathy of the entire community. [end]
